About the event
The Hidden World Beneath Our Feet
Soil is not just dirt; it is a vibrant ecosystem teeming with life. Beneath the surface, a complex interplay of microbes and minerals creates a nurturing environment that supports plant growth, ultimately sustaining all life on Earth. Understanding this intricate web of interactions can deepen our appreciation for the natural world and the food we consume.
Microbes: The Unsung Heroes
Microorganisms, including bacteria, fungi, and protozoa, play a crucial role in soil health. They contribute to a variety of essential processes:
Nutrient Cycling: Microbes break down organic matter, releasing nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium that plants need to thrive.
Soil Structure Improvement: Fungi, particularly mycorrhizal fungi, form symbiotic relationships with plant roots, enhancing soil structure and water retention.
